Social media is so effective at getting your ‘message’ out there that, without it, the task would require a major advertising budget.  Where esle can the small business owner reach out to such a large audience for FREE?  Today’s technology makes starting your own online marketing business a much more viable option for the general public than it has ever been before.

This video brings up another hot topic – mobile media marketing, which refers to marketing on or using a mobile device. Wikipedia defines mobile marketing as “using interactive wireless media to provide customers with time and location sensitive, personalized information that promotes goods, services and ideas, thereby generating value …”.  Essentially, your mobile device will allow you to access and use many of the services that you use online … your mini-office on the go.

Wishing you great success!

  1. Wendy, I am using Social Media for business about 80% of the time, the other 20% is personal. This has been a great mix for me and been huge in growing my business over the past year.

  3. Thise who are not using social media are leaving tons of business and information on the table. I have been using social media for years now and it has increased my business 10 fold.

    • I am always surprised when I hear that mlm’ers are not taking advantage of social media to grow their business (and relationships). I’m blown away by the number of people in my upline that rely on the ‘old school’ methods of network marketing. I think I’m the odd one out. We’ll see how that pans out in the future :)
      Thanks for your comment.

  4. Hi Wendy – i think the thing about social media – remember when it was all web 2.0 lingo! is that there are so many forums to connect with different people for different reasons

For no particular reason I get a bit irritated by business posts and links on my Facebook wall – probably because i use facebook as a mostly social tool and am a bit choosy with who I connect with whilst twitter is pretty much just a forum to pitch incessantly (not that I do)

I guess its a numbers game and mass aggregation across multiple networks is required in order to be heard – what’s often missing is the building of depth which can’t be automated

Thanks for sharing cheers Kiaran from mostly sunny Perth!

    • I am like you Kiaran, I use Facebook mainly for personal use. Trying to keep my profile page separate from business is proving rather difficult. I created a fan page, but people seem to want the friend connection.
Whereas with Twitter, I use it strictly for business.
I agree with you about the depth of relationships as well. Often, we are too busy to really connect and that is the whole point of social media. Even if you take the time to make a deeper connection with two or three people a day, it will pay great dividends.
      Thanks for your comment! :)

  5. Wendy,
Thanks for sharing this video. It is so true that social media is no longer a luxury when marketing our businesses. But just as I am getting the knack of certain pieces, a new thing is added – applying social media marketing for mobile devices. Continuous learning and upgrading.

    • It is continuous learning and upgrading … staying up with the technology. It makes you wonder where we will be in a few years from now. Things are changing so fast.

  6. Thanks for sharing that. I have been doing social media, well sort of, since 2007. I really didn’t get it but a little over a year ago I started to understand the power. Since then, I have been using it a lot more. I agree that many people are missing out if they are not using social media, or if they are using it the wrong way.

  7. Social media is hot Wendy,
If we are not tapping into this free advertising tool we are simply losing out and for that matter most of the lead generation methods are free, why not use it especially for home business owners. One more thing about social media is that it levels the playing field with the big players in our niche. One can literally dominate the same markets if we do the basics. I am definitely using it! Thanks for sharing.

    • Thanks for adding your social media insights Kebabope. I love when the underdog wins and when we can compete with the big players on an even field … awesome!! The internet is a wonderful thing!!

  8. Hi Wendy,

.Social Media is not an option for any business today. Even people who said they would never get involve, didn’t need it are coming around! Social media is my 100% focus in building my business. I met my partner via social media, I keep up with my family via social media and I build my business via social media. When I consider how I met most of my clients, some of whom I have met in person, I realize that all our relationships started via social media. As a mother, it is just not time effective for me to do business any other way. I can build a global business and care for my family at the same time – true win-win!
